SIR JOSEPH WARD.

WELCOMED IN AUCKLAND. Mil I'KESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, July 31. The Committee of the Liberal and Labor Federation welcomed Sir Joseph Ward, and expressed their confidence in Sir Joseph and Ins colleagues and supporters m Parliament. They hoped that he would continue to carry out the wise aid beneficent policy inaugurated by Mr Ballancc, and so successfully developed and extended under the late Mr Seddon's Premiership, to the advancemont of the best interests of the colony and people. Sir Joseph Ward, in replying, endorsed the policy of having advisory boards of the Federation in each province. Replying to the public welcome Sir Joseph Ward referred to a statement that he was likely to go in for a wild scheme of public borrowing involving five to twenty millions, He said that no one would be insane enough to think such a thing. Ho had never advocated borrowing beyond the capacity of the country, and the idea of a five or even two millions loan was unwise. He had not altered his ideas m this matter. The policy of his colleaßucs and himself was to be modest and moderate. At the same time ho would give effect to a progressive policy fo r people of the country. He urged the the pooplo to wait till the policy of the new Government was submitted. If it was unsatisfactory they could replace them.
