(From Our Own Correspondent.) I Mr Mark held a clearing sale on Thursday. The cattle were all in good condition, anil prices averaged £5. His milking machine did not roach the reserved price, and was not sold. A meeting was held in the Town Hall to consider the matter of converting the Manganui Eoad Board into a County. There were very few present. After considerable discussion it was decided to set up a committee and circulate a petition praying that the Board bz constituted a County; the committee to be the members of the Board, Tith power to add to their number.

Mr G. McDonald has just returned from a trip through the Hot Lakes district. Since returning, he has been promoted by the Dairy Company to the position of head butter-maker. The stationmaster, Mr Win. Noble, has also been for a fortnight's holiday. He resumed his duties on Monday. Mrs Win;? Kcc is putting an addition to her dsvclling. A concert and dance in aid of the funds for the school scientific appara- . tus took place on Friday evening. f There was a good attendance, and Mr 1 \V. T. Jennings presided. In the course of bis opening remarks, Mr '" Jennings spoke of the benclits of technical education to youne people fjualifying for the business of life. He related what he had seen in Duncdin in respect of technical education. 3 Classes were ther-3 for teaching Maori, typewriting, shorthand, etc. The South Island, so far as technical education was concerned, was much ahead of the

North Island. The concert was most successful. It opened with an overture by the Misses Cramer, who played particularly well. The rest of the programme was as follows : Song. Anderson ; song, "Cuckoos' Concert." school children ; song "Sailors Bold," Masters W. Syme, 11. Carter, and If Anderson; recitation. Mr Ernest Anderson (encored); son.'. Mrs Mail; dialogue." Mental Arithmetic," Masters \V. McCook and V,\ Vickers; fan song, school girls; song, Master Leslie Foster; song, Miss Chlenberg (encored); step dince, Mr S. Bead; A.B.C. Cantata, school children. Dancing was then indulged in, and kept up till about 2 a.m. The fund will benefit to the extent of about £S by the holding of the function.
