URUTI NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Fine weather is Mill continuing here, and we hare now had a U:w days almost like spiing. I hope thai il wili last for a while, as we have had such a lot of rain this last month thai we could safely do with a (food spell of line without any r;sk i/f a drought. The directors of the Dairy Company have dei k'ed not to sell their butter this season, but are shipping it themselves through Messrs licwloy and Griffiths, of New Plymouth. They had some very good olters foi this season's output, but were influenced by the high prices ruling at Home at piesenl to ship it them serves this time. No doubt the high prices at present are very encouraging, especialy as now is the fuli flush on the Home market, and it would seem reasonable to supposi that if the Home price is high now it must continue for some tune. The company's manager turns out a firstclass article, and if there is to be ;. profit, why not have the full benefit of it.

Since last writing, two men havi been put on clearing sups away 01. die Moki road; and not before tinn either, as it was getting extremely dangerous for horse trattic of any description.

On Saturday, the Uruti footballer: are to play PuKear ehue at Urenui, and, weatuer being line, snould haw a good game. Our team will be weakened ilus time by the loss of k. Aroa, one of our wing players, win. nas met with an accident while bush idling for Mr Pentecost on the Ma» road, Having chopped his foot rathe, oadly. The following is the tcan. that has been picked to play: E. 0. r-wart, 0. Nicholls, D. Mclvellar, B joll, Hooper, F. Hunter, F. Aroa, A. Page, \\. Old, Charles Musker, 0 rraser, J. Niclioils, A. Crawford, \\. L)ay, G. Schw amin; emergencies, is.. McKeuzie, C. Barnitt. Mr G. Oxenttam is home again, after his illness in the hospital wit. rheumatism. Mr Oxenham is te oe congratulated on his speedy recovery, and 1 sincerely hope he win continue in good health. Mr A. Crawlord has just finishec ais first 100 acres of bushlelling ii. ihe Moki, and is commencing tin second contract of 100 acres. then is a good deal of bush being fellec m the Moki this winter, and 1 hope diat the selectors who are felling will not be forgotten and left 01 impassable roads for the next lev. years. I hear from good authority inat a thousand pounus would be ai. that is required to join this end 01 ihe Moki road with \\hangamomona, and yet for the want of that settlers have to go two days rount. to get out, when they could easily get on to a good road this way in three hours. Verily the ways 01 our Road Department are dark. A certain business man not one nundred miles lrom New Plymouth, while doing some cleaning to his gun, lost a screw out of the locks. Although uiligent search was made, ihat strew could not be found, great ly to the annoyance of the owner. About a fortnight later he was din ing in a bush camp about ten mile: away, and was refreshing the innci man on good bush brownie, when he tound something hard in his mouth, and, lo and behold, there was the missing screw taking the place 01 the currants. He managed tc explain how he lost the screw, which must have fallen among the currant: and thence found its way to tin bushmen's camp. On, Saturday, Mr A. H. Herbert. of New Plymouth, is opening a display of drapery in the hall, ant" will be staying here about a week. Mr Herbert is deserving of support! is he comes here regularly every i"ew months, and even pushes his way right up to the King Country. This is a great boon to the settlers wives, in the back blocks, as thc\ rarely get a chance of a choice o 1 drapery so far back, and Mr Ilerber. carries, goods at prices to suit all. Owing to the wet weather, the con cert that was to have been held thi(Friday) night was abandoned. However, as over a dozen couples turned up, a dance was held, which \\umost enjoyable. Mr C. Barnctt .'1 rected proceedings, and the musii was supplied by Miss Blurk (YVa: tra), Miss Jennie Joll, and Mr Ma theson. The postponed concert will take place on Monday night.
