BOROUGH COUNCIL.

This few Plymouth Borough Council held its fort nightly mooting on Monday night. His Worship the Mayor (Mr E. Dockrill) presided, and there were also present Crs. Mr William Barnard applied for a lease of five acres at the abattoirs for the purpose of erecting a boiling-down works, as it was his intention to kill for export, Mr G. Eiddell made a similar application, lteforred to the Agricultural Department for its opinion. Mr Howe objected to pay half-cost of repairing the footpat'a outside his buildings occupied by Mr K. W. Dixon, butcher. He quoted recent Court decisions on this point.

The Borough Solicitor reported the Council had no claim.

On tho motion of Cr. Brooking, seconded by Cr. Browne, it was decided b asphalt this bad part of the foot, path. A four-inch water main will be laid to replaco the J-inch pipe which now serves houses in llobson street.

A letter to the General Inspector from Mr 11. L. Mestayer, consulting engineer, with reference to the leakage from the tunnel, and suggesting several ways of locating the leak was read. The inspector stated he was following out Mr Mcstayer's instructions to open up the side-drive in order lo allow aim'to inspect the outside of the tunnel This work was nearly completed. He was sure he could stop the leak if these means failed,
