CADET OFFICERS.
TO TIIE EDITM!. Stß, —I thoroughly endorse the si and taken by the Cadet officers as munitioned in tkis morning's paper. Thai .Mr Maunder went 100 far is the opinion of a large number of the parents of the Cadets. In the first place Mr Maunder only got Ins information second hand, and did not take the trouble to find out whether the officers had sixpence worth ofwwhiske y a cask of beer, or only a oof tie of home-made wine that was given to them by one of the settlers at Sentry Hill. He only saw in the papers iliat the olliccrs drank a few toasts (and one can drink a number of toasts from one glass of wine) on Sunday, and he jumped to the conclusion that they had bought a wine merchant's stock. To drink whiskey at any time is an awful sin m Mr Maunder's opinion, but to desecrate the Sabbath by drinking it on that day is beyond redemption. I am a tee-totalor and have always recorded my vote for prohibition; yet cannot see that the officers committed any great sin on this occasion. —I am, etc., Fatiieb or UjiE or the Cadets.
