COUNTRY NOTES.

(By Our Travelling Reporter.) Mr A. C. Johnstone lias disposed of his farm at Lepperton, and in order to extend his dairying pursuits has taken up a larger property at Ratapiko, some ten miles out of Inglewood. Mr Garner, who has been resident at Ratapik' for a number of years, has purchased Mr Johnstone's property, and expects to be in occupation about the end of the month.

Mr G. Foster, of Lepperton, is also seeking fresh fields, having purchased 1111 extensive and up-to-dito farm at Wmtara East, where he and his family will take up their abode next week. Much regret is expressed at the departure oF both these families from Lepperton, where they have been respected residents for some years past.

" I wonder how it is that apples, oooking and eating, are selling al ■lul and (id per lb. respectively, and yet we cannot get. a price to make it worth our while even to pick them oft' the tree, much less pack and carl them to Xow Plymouth," said a well-known grower to writer last week. The bad slate of liiehmoud road, which runs from 1/i'vrm Line to Sentry ffill, is lvspoMsibie for 'Ome strong abuse from those unfortunates who have to traverse it in-trail-, gigs and ii'O 'ir cars. Many of the ruts are axle deep. S irely the powers that be have forgotten that this road is under their tender care
