URUTI NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.) The farewell social to have been given to Miss Burchcll last Thursday night did not come off, owing to the rough weather. There was no half and half about it ; it simply poured down, and all Lruti stayed at home that night.

It is pleasing to note that them j is talk of co-operative work starting again on some of our roads. I believe a gang is going into the May road, and also the Moki road. 1 jiope they do not stop as suddenly as they did o» the last occasion. Impounding stray cattle and horses Is the latest ia here. The Clifton County Council has decided to impound stray stock on the roads, and Mr H. Jones has been appointed ranger. Already there is a marked difference, there being no stray cattle to be seen anywhere, but some stray imprecations on the head of the ranger are to be heard, all the same. Mr C. N. Roue, of I'renui, liar! a narrow escape from what might h.ive been a serious accident a few day ?go. Ife was on his way home from Uruti, and was getting out of his gig to speak to someone, when the horse suddenly bolted, an'l threw Mr Rowe clear of the gig- The horse shot down the road at full speed, but was eventually stopper' by Mr Fisher, after travelling about two miles. No damage was don* to the gig. Mr Rowe had one hand rather badly cut. We have h ad a day or two fine weather again, and prospects art brightening. The grass will begir, to shoot soon, and all are looking forward to an early spring, after hijvjr manth'i nln wo b»ve o»d.
