The gold medal for the best shot in tho North Island was won by Private Arthur Lirwill Humphries, of Taranaki Rifle Volunteers, who scorec'. within three points of the possible. The gold and silver modal for second best shot iu tho North Island was won by Sergt. Harry Salmon, of the No. 3 Ohinemuri Rifijs Privato Stafford Wilson Clirk, also of Ohinemuri, gained tho silver medal awarded for the best shot m Auckland district while Corporal Frederick Syraondp, of Hastings lliflos, won tho silver medal allotted to the Wellington Voluntoer district, la awards tor the South Island, Color-Sergt. Charles A, Hadfield, of Blenheim Rifle Volunteers, gained the gold modal for the best shot in tho South Island. Tho ranges were 200, 500, and 700 yards, with possibles of 14,14, and 28 respectively, and at each rang) he soored the fu',l number of points. Sergeant Major Frank Barnett, of Takaka (Nelson) Mounted Rifles won the gold aud silver medal for the seoond best shot in the South Island, and the silver medals allotted to Volunteer districts; were won respectively by Corporal Oliver William Cole, Waimea, Nelson; Color-Sergt. Edwin F. Sandford, Christchnrch City Guards, Canterbury ; and Color-Sergt. John S. Searle, Caversham Rifles, Dunedin, Otago. The printed results of magazine volley and magazine independent firing for the volunteer year ended 28th February, show that the best record for New Zealand was nude by No. 3 Ohinemuri Rifle Volunteers, who, firing with 24 men, soored 422 points in magazine volley firing. The percentage of hits to rounds fired was 86'6, while in magazine independent, their proportionate figure was 891,
