TARANAKI SCHOOL COMMISMISSIONERS.

The Board met on Friday, there being present: Messrs James Wade (Chairman), H. Faull, F. Simpson, W. T. Jennings, M.H.'R.

RENEWALS AND BEVAI-UATION. The Board's solicitor reported that the arbitrators on the renewal of Mr R. Price's loase of section 59, Hua and Waiwakaiho district had made thenaward fixing the value of improvements at £IOO, and the rent payable for the next 21 years at £5 per annum. Mr Price wrote, objecting to the award, and stating that he considered his improvement to be worth at least £l5O, and the improved rental should not exceed lis tid per aero, lie asked the Board to accept 2s (id per acre per annum, and to grant the renewal lease to Ins sou, David Price, instead of himself. The Board's arbitrator (Mr G. A. Marchant) wrote strongly with regard to the condition of the reserve, and stated Mr Price had failed to carry out his promises. Mr Price's own arbitrator (Mr John Skinner) also wrote at his principal's request, and explained his method of valuation, stating that the land is very badly infested with blackberry. The Board resolved to visit the reserve on Thursday next if liuo. It was resolve! to grant a new lease of section 475, Patea district, to prosent lessee, Edward Gilshman, for a term of 21 years from expiry of present lease at rental fixed by arbitration (£2B) with provision for perpetual renewals at rent to bo fixed by arbitration on unimproved value with 5 per cent, per annum, added on £IBO. A new lease of sub Section 1 of Section 22 Block 14 Kaupokonui S.D. was granted to the present lessee, Mary Elizabeth Davison for 21 years at a rental fixed by arbitration (£7O) with similar provision to the above. The value of the Board's improvements was £485.

Tho renewal lease of Section 20 Block 3, Waimate S.D. formerly leased to Rhody Slattery (deceased) was, with tlxe oonsent of the registered proprietor of the existing lease, granted to the sub-lessee direct. The Board's solicitor reported that the arbitrators had fixed the value of improvements on G. J. Baker's leasehold (Section 4, Block VIII., Waitara S.D.) at £2lO and the rent payable unlor the renewal lease at £ls per annum

Mr Baker waited on the Board aiul requested that the rent be reduced.— It was resolved not to interfere with the award.

KENT HOAD SCHOOL. Resolved that the Chairman be authorised, when satisfied that a site can be acquued, to arrange for its surrender and for survey, etc., provided the Education Board completes without delay substantial fencing between the land to be surrendered and the remainder of the lasd under lease to Mr Barker.

BIFLE BANOK COMPENSATION. The Hoard's Solicitor reported further negotiations with the Land Purchase OlHeer for compensation for land taken by the Government for a rifle range, and it was resolved to accept the compensalion offered by tho Land Purchase Officer. WESTERN FABK. The Secretary reported that the Bill for the exchange of sections with the New Plymouth Borough Council had been revised and approved by tho Solicitor, and advertised. TABIKI BOAD SCHOOL. In reply to the Taranaki Education Hoard's request that on expiration of lease oE Section 276, Block IX., Huiro.v district, the Commissioners set apart a further area of 5 acres as an addition to the school site, it was decided to deal with tho request when the land becomes available.

BAILWAV DEVIATION. The Board rcsolycd on the amount of compens. tion to be demanded from the llailway Department for Board land taken in connection with tho railway deviation scheme. TEANSFEBS. Conditionally on all papers being in order, the following transfers of leases wero approved: A. C. Bublitz to the West Coast Farmers' Trading Association, Ltd., Section 18, Block 15, Huiroa S.D.; Geo. Barker to Clias. Barker, part 162 Hun and Waiwakaiho. Tho under leaso by the "Opunakc Timber Co. to John Coupe of part 6 I J Block 11, Opunake S. D. was approved, subject to favorable report by tho solicitor. The Chairman's action in consenting to the under lease from D. J. Hughes to Spiers, Section 20, Bloofr 3, Opunake, was confirmed.
