WEST END SCHOOL.
COMMITTEE MEETING. At the ordinary monthly meeting of the West End School Committee on Thursday night, there were present : Messrs H. Gilbert, (to the chair), MeWhinney, Minder, Smith, Gardner, Bennett, Nuon, and Dearc. The|question of lighting the school by gas was again discussed, The chairman stated that Mr Francis had offered to erect the gas fittings at cost and provide' labor free, and Mr Nixon (a member of the committee) offered to donate'about lfJOffc of piping. On the motion of Mr Nixon, seconded liy Mr Deare, the offer of Mr Francis was accepted, with thanks, and the gas installation will he put in hand. It was decided, on the motion of Messrs Deare and Bennett, to combine with the Western Park Committee jn arranging a big bazaar for Christmas time, sharing the profits. Messrs Gilbert and Dearc were granted permission to take surface earth from the schoolground. The chairman moved, and Mr Bennett seconded, that the secretary apply to Mr T, Brooking for permission to cut down the pine trees qyerhaugiug the school-ground,—Carried. Members stating that the ground would he made drier by their removal. Accounts amounting to £5 4s 2d were passed for payment. The chairman was deputed to see the Education Board's architect in reference to a supply of hose for the school.
Mr G. Blanchard was re-appomtcd custodian. There were four applicants.
