FIRES.
Pill FKEB3 ASSOCIATION". DcrNßDllf, July 11. A fire broke out this evening in the warehouse, office, and finishing depart?" meat of the Zealandia Hosiery Factory, ■n Walker street. Although a strong wind was blowing, the lire brigade soon had tho flames under control, and prevented the fire from spreading to the adjoining buildings on each side. A good deal of damage was done to the stock, which was fairJy heavy, and wa s practically destroyed by fire or water, whilst the finishing machinery was completely destroyed. The stock was insured in the Sun Office for £4OO. The building was onoe a seven-roomed House, and was insured for £2OO, also in the Sun Office. Tho proprietor of the factory is W. J. Dreaver.
CHILD'S NABSOW ESCAPE.
Auckland, July 11. A fire broke out iu a four-roomed house, the two rooms downstairs and d small room attached at the rear with the contents being; destroyed by fire, uid the contents of two rooms up* stairs damaged by water. Mrs Fun. Nell left the house in the morning to | look for a more suitable residence, and | left a child in the house until she re. turned. The unfortunate boy had a narrow escape for his life, Two neighbours Smashed open a door on tho alarm being given, and found the jhild almost suffocated, but after being in tho fresh air some time it recovered. How the fire occurred is not known.
