The Works Committee mot on Thursday. Present: Crs. Collis (Acting Chairman), Brooking, Bellringer, Browne, Hutchen, Monteath, It was decided to recommond to the Council: That the Education Board be in formed that tho Council have no power to remit the fees for building permit for the Technical School. That the notice from tho Insoector of Noxious Weeds re gorse on Place, be referred to Crs Monteaih and Wilson to report upon. That the letter from the School Commissioners re insurance on the Baihs, be referred to the Works SubCommittee to report upon. That no action be taken against the owners of animals impounded, this being thoir first ofllenoe. That Mr Riddell's application for permission to erect boiling down works at Abattoir Reserve be referred to Abattoir Committee to report upon. That in future no permits be granted for suspending calico posters across any street. That the engineer report upon the advisability of establishing a metal depot at the corner of Gover and Leach streets, That the Sergeant of Police be requested to assist the Council in enforcing the by-laws relating to lamps and bells on bicycles, That Mr Grant be informed that the Council cannot see its way to accede to his request for a crossing at corner of Gover and Lemon streets. That the Foreman repair the foot- * path in Goyer street, between Pendarves and Lemon street. That the Town Clerk report re the powers and duties of the Gas Co. in . laying gas mains in the streets. That the removal of grass from the ! streets between tho water tables and the metal be discontinued, except where ' such removal is absolutely necessary. That steps be taken to have the lamp posts taken up and stored. That the question of repairs at the r abattors be referred to the Abattoir ! Committee with power to act. ' That the Engineer report upon the [ advisability of erecting a shed on the 5 abattoir reserve to cover the trucks and engine, and as to the probable cost.
