The Archbishop of Canterbury addressed a letter to members of the Convocation and House laymen, appealing for support in his endeavour to end a situation which is well nigh intolerable. He states it is abundantly clear that it is neither possible nor desirable to secure observance in the twentieth century of the detailed rubrics, prepared in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
