A "YES-NO " COUNCIL.
The contradictory nature of several resolutions passed by the Taranaki County Council lately hrivo Won remarked by ratepayers, and lias nut been allowed to pass unnoticed in the Council chamber "We are getting too fund of this sort of altogether,'' saiit Cr jAdlam at Monday's meeting. " He went on to refer to ; the action of tlie Counrl iu declining | to allow a sawmiller to stack timber on j the road-side, and then, a week later, giving permission to do so. This, too, was a nuiianee. The timber was thrown on the road-side anyhow, and no attempt was ji>:ide to slack 11. The Chairman said permbsinn was given on Mr lvlo promising to have a proper depot made; In st ;ick the 1 nnber io the sativfaelinii i-f the foreman ; and to indemnify the Council against risk of accident. Cr Adlam said no such indemnity had yet been given, and half ot the six week* had expired for which the permission was given. The stacking should never have been allowed. Noting the unanimitv nf the Otnata Riding members, Cr Stevens moved that the arrangement be camelled, a< Mr Ede had appircntly made no attempt to comply with the conditions imposed on his own suggestion. The motion was carried without dissent.
