TE-OWNED STEAMERS.

FEDERAL COMMISSION'S REPORT. Received 30,1.6 a.m. Melbourne, June 29. The Shipping Commission's report is published. The whole report is practically an advocacy of a National licet, owned and run by the Federal Government. It recommends a fleet of eight turbine steamers, two thousand tons larger than the present ships, of sixteen knots, each costing three hundred and seventy-five thousand pounds. A fortnightly service is estimated to cost one million two hundred and seven thousand yearly. The annual estimato of rcyenue is one million throe hundred and ninoteen thousand. Passengers' receipts are based on the Orient fares. The vessels should be manned by Australians and repairs done in Australia. The various Chambers of Commerce objected to a national line on the ground that a Government was less economical than private enterprise.
