V At Kaitangata to-day, William Thompson, a minor, was committed for trial on a charge of discharging a fin. arm with intent to do grievous bodily ' harm to one William Fibbes. The' case for tho prosecution was that accused, who was somewhat under the : influence of drink, called at Fibbes'" *". house and used abusive language. Ha was turned off the property and » severely handled. Accused, who lived in a tent some 150 yards away, returned shortly after and again used abusive languago, inviting Fibbes to come oat and he would do for him. When he ', saw Fibboi, it is alleged he discharged a pea rifle, and Fibbes heard a bullet pass his face. Fibbes again "dealt: , with" Thompson, who was taken home.; ': Mr Hanlon, who appeared for the moused, could not cross-examine the principal witness, a daughter-in-law of Fibbes, as she was indisposed, and as he said there was no doubt a prima facie case had been made out, he would not keep the rase open any longer,
