ARANAKI POULTRY SOCIETY.
THE ANNUAL SHOW. The Taranaki Poultry, Pigoon and Canary Society's 1906 Show opened in the Drill Hall on Friday. The officials are to bo complimented on the forward state of the arrangements, which represented the result of the combined efforts of a band of enthusiasts in this particular industry or hobby—either, or b >th. The weather conditions were bright in the morning, but in the afternoon and evening soaking rain fell, materially affecting; the attendance of the public. His Worship the Mayor, Mr E. Dockriil, the Society's Patron, officially opened the show in the afternoon. He congratulated the Society on the excellent display and on the progress made from year to year. On the whole, the show is a good one, though some of its importance is lost by the fact of its falling on the same days as the Wolliugton fixture, this losing several large and prominent exhibitors. The quality shown was excellent in most classes, though the judge found little to interest him in other soctions. Whilst some exhibitors sent their birds in good show condition, there were many badly benched exhibits, very few of the white pullets, for instance, having been properly washed This of course, was a fault that counted strongly against ihem in oompotition with those properly shown. Mr Sowman, judge in the poultry classes, was pleased with the quality shown, and with the condition in which the birds were shown. A description of the principal pens is hold over till Monday, Results:
