JEWELLERY ROBBERY IN SYDNEY.
£3OO WORTH STOLEN. The premises of Mr A. A. Ellisdon, jeweller, of 59 ami 61, Oxford street, Sydney, were entered by thieves between the hours of six o'clock and a quater past seven on Tuesday night of last week, and jewellery valued at between £2OO and £3OO stolen. Mr Ellisden reported the matter to No. 3 police station, and detectives were immediately detailed to investigate. Mr Ellisden, who lives on the premises, returned to his home about a-qaarter past seven, and was surprised to find that two windows facing the backyard were w'de open. His worst fears were soon confirmed, for upon entering the shop he found the floor absolutely littered with jewellery and broken-open boxes and cases. The thieves were yery daring, as they even took jewellery from the windows of the shop. Only the best was taken, and some gilt jewellery was thrown in a heap, having evidently been hastily examined and thrown aside.
Show cases were smashed open, while a number of boxes which had been packed tor despatch to travellers at Woollongong had been prised, and the contents extracted. The stolen articles include rings, brooches, watches—in fact, everything that had any yalue. The premises had no doubt been well, watched by the thieves, and the movements of the occupants known, for the time of entrance was selected when everybody had left the place.
