INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION.
TARANAKI REPRESENTATION, A meeting of delegates from loeal bodies convened by the committee appointed to arrange for the representation of Taranaki at the International Exhibition at Christcliurch, wrs held at Stratford.
Mr W. G. Malonc, who has taken a leading part in urging the desirability of Taranaki representation, stated that a space 10ft x 31ft had been reserved iu an excellent position, between Mstnawatu and Tanranga, but the district was in no way committed to anything. Mr Malone said it was proposed in their space to make a general exhibition of Taranaki resources, and if possible of its wealth and beauty, not a display of merchandise, with which visitors to the Exhibition would no doubt bo sickened. Hirf idea was
to have a p'ctorial map o£ the province prepared, showing the nature of tlie land, and the average prijc per acre, tile moun'ain, the rivers of the province, and perhaps here and there n piece of bush. There would also be exhibits of dairy produce, petroleun} coal, etc. His idea was to have an attendant, a plens mt intellectual fellow, to be present throughout the whole cour.e of the K.vhibiti m, to explain to visitors the sort of place TaranaV. was, and its possibilities The Taranaki court would bo simple, an oasis in the desert. They won'd have in addition l ooks printed, the cjst of which would bo largely defrayed by advertisements. The whole cost of such a court, not including space, would be about £3OO. It was proposed to have a woodwork front to the court.
The delegates proscn' w rm'y ru iport 3d the scliemo as outlined by Mr Malone, with the addition that the trout fishing of tho province should be advertised.
Considerable distils sion took place on the question of financing the venture, and it was decided to circulate subscription lists throughout the province, soveral delegates undertaking to canvass for support in their districts. Mr Malone said he would personally visit the placos that were nH popresented, and endeavour to slir up a little more warmth in tho project. A committco to represent Stratford was appointed, an I the varims c.im-l mittees will bo as'ccd to set up sub- j committees to canvass, and also elect (lologatga (a tin gguernl contaitte?.
