CENSUS SHOWS LARGE INCREASE. m PBESS ASSOCIATION Weuwotoh, June 28. A summary of the enumerator's figures in connection with the recent sensus has been made by the Registrar, From this it appears that the Colony 'ias a population, exclusire of Maoris, if 890,416, as against 772,719 on the Ust March, 1901. The nnmerie.l increase is thus roughly ascertained to He 117,f196, or 16J per oent. for the ive years as against an increase of 19,389 between 1890 and 1901, a rate of 9'Bfl per cent. With the Maori population, and the figuros for the Cook an l other islands, the population is anticipated to be shown at 946,000.
