A GROWING BUSINESS.

MK. NEWTON KING IN SI'RATFORD. ; "1 Farmers should feel indebted to the ' enterprise of Mr Newton King, in j instituting his Stratford sales of wool, ' hides, tallow, and sheepskins. The Stratford branch now plays a very important part in the extension of the business of the firm, which fact can easily be gauged by those who have noted the rapid expansion of the firms operations in that quarter. Apart from the regular auction sales of stock there, Mr King has his large mart and land agency connections. The mart business outgrew the large premises in Broadway, and new quarters were erected just at the rear of the " Stratford Evening Post" buildings. This was the " Haymarket" for many years, and here a thriving business has been conducted, and has increased under the able management of Mr F. W. Webster, wholes personally conducted the sales for years past, besides managing the branch. General merchandise, produce, pigs, calves, poultry, and so forth are regularly marketed by the farmers of the district, who arc thus enabled to make revenue fromthr products of the soil. Not long ago Mr King launched out again, this time erecting a horse bazaar, and grain store, and the first Stratford horse bazaar auctions were held, with great success. The next step was to meet the case of those farmers and others who had been compelled to export their wool, skins, tallow, and hides to the bigger centres for disposal. Here was a forward step, indeed, but its wisdom has been proved by the large catalogues at the two monthly sales held to date. The advantages of such a sale arc manifold, but the principal, of course, is that there arc no heavy railage charges to pay before placing the produce on the market. The choice of Stratford as the locale of the sale was on account of its central position, and this has brought lots from Opunakc, (lie rich Waimalc Plains, Hawera. Whangamotnona, New Plymouth, and Urenui. Thus a very large catalogue was placed before the visiting buyers and excellent business resulted. The rapid and sound business extension m ' Stratford reflects the greatest possible ' credit on Mr W. Webster, the manager, and his competent staff, and must do ; a great deal towards keeping the I Taranaki" Chicago "up to the mark. It . is pleasing to note, too, that farmers . and settlers in the north end are pull- , ing together with Mr Newton King's , Stratford branch in making the Strati ford sales worth the attention of all * oionial buyerti,
