AN EXCITING VOYAGE.

Tektu, June 23. The Norfolk, which was off Frcmantle under sail yesterday, left Durban on May 28th and encountered very rough weather. On June 10th the engine began to race, and it was ascertained that the propollor was broken off flush with the stern-post. Every available bit of sail was set and the vessel got under control. During a gale on the 12th she became unmanageable, lurching dangerously, and the foresail was blown away. Oil was used to oalm the seas and a new mainsail set, but owing to the heavy weather the vessel refused to answer her helm. The difficulty was oyeroome by pumping out tanks in the fore-part of the ship and filling thoso at the other end,

On June 15th and 16th gales were met with which .threatened the Aims; make-shift sails. The crew got to work, pntting bands on to strengthen the canvas, and others constructed two large sea anchors in'ease the ship should be blown ashore. Every precaution was taken to meet contingencies.'

On the following Tuesday night a fierce squall came up, and the vessel was put dead before the wind, bowling along splendidly until Thursday when the mainsail was carried away. By joining the hatch coverings and odd pi?ces of canvas the vessel again got under way, and with a liberal use of oil managed to reach the vicinity of Fremantlc, when distress signals were hoisted and tugs came to her assistance.

During the voyage a seaman named Christensen fell from aloft and was killed.
