The large and varied character of tho gathering was the greatest possible tribute to Mr Seddon's memory, and the grief manifested shows how deeply the loss his services beyond New Zealand's shores, as well as within tho colony, are recognised in the heart of the Umpire Such sympathy will help to soften the terrible blow the widow and family have sustained.

N ILLUSTRIOUS GATHERING. Eeceived 20, 10 11 p.m. London, June 20. Bisliop Stepney, with the Dean and Aclideacon of St. Paul's and Canons Holland and Besley, conducted the Seddon memorial service. Sir G. C. Martin presided at the organ and began the service with Chopin's "Dead March" and ended with the Dead March in " Saul." Lord Suffield, Lieutenant-Colonel Sir William Carrington, and Mr N. Lamont, member for Buteshire, represented the King, the Prince of Wales and Sir H. Campbell • Bannerman respectively. Those present included Mr Austen Chamberlain, representing-his father. Mrs Chamberlain, Lord Elgin, Mr Winston Churchill; Sir Joseph Ward, Lady Ward and Miss Ward, who sat in the seat of the chief mourners; Hon. W. P. Beeves, Lord Onslow, Hon. Alfred Lytteltou, Janet Lady Clarke of Melbourne, J. Cathcart, Sir Westby PercivJ, Lord Eanfurly; Mr B. H. Holland, private secretary to the Secretary of State for the Colonies; Mr William Gray, Sir John Cockburn ; Sir M. F. O.mmaney, Permanent Under-Secretary for the Colonies; Mr Justice Williams, Harold and Mrs Beauchamp; Sir Frederick iToung, President of the Eoyal Colonial Institute ; S. 0' Halloran, Secretary of the Koyal Colonial Institute; Ada Crossley, Sir Montagu Nelson, W, J. Napier, Mr Montgomery, Mr HennikerHeaton, Captain Collins (Australia) and all the Agents-General. SIGNS OF MOURNING IN SYDNEY. Sydney, June 20. All Government flags will bo at half-mast for Mr Seddon's funeral tomorrow. A GREAT RANGITIRA. Napier, Juno 20. A message of warm sympathy with Mrs Seddon and family has been sent by the ILiwke's Bay natives, by whom the late Mr Seddon was regarded as their father. A number of them have gone to Wellington to attend the funeral. DUNEDIN CAR SERVICE SUSPENDED. Dcnedin, June 20. At a meeting of the City Council, Mayor Lawrence, who is absent atteuding Ihe funeral of the late Premier, left 1 a minute eulogising the sreat services to the colony and the Umpire o£ Mr Seddon, and deploring bis death The minute was ordered to be entered in its i entirety in the minutes, and it was : decided to forward a letter of con- 1 dolence with Mrs Seddon and family. It was resolved to cease the running of the electric cars from 2 to 2.30 tomorrow, as a mark of respect. The Council then adjourned.
