The Daily News TUESDAY, JUNE 19. EDUCATION BOARD ELECTIONS.

Mobe interest than heretofore attaches to the forthcoming Taranaki Education Board election, as tho election for the first time will be held under the ward system inaugurated under the amending Act of last year. Under the new system, which, for some reason, does not appear to find favor with the present Education Boards, tho education districts are separated into three wards, divided on tho basis of the yearly average attendance for the schools in the district, and three members are to be elected for each ward. Tho arrangement, to our mind, is a most equitable one, ensuring that every portion of an education district shall have, so far as is reasonably possible, direct representation, a condition that did not always obtain under the systorn now being superseded. What school committees and the general public are principally interested in, therefore, is the constitution of the several wards into which the Education Board has divided the district. The Board, in its wisdom has seen fit to publicly announce tho lists of schools allotted to each ward through the columns of only one newspaper. The consequence is, that beyond a notification that may or may not have been received by the school committees, ignorance in many quarters prevails regarding the election, for which the Bjard, whether by accident or design, is responsible. There is, however, yet time for the people, through the school committees, to bestir themselves in the matter, with a view to bringing forward candidates for the various wards. As the Board is at present constituted, there are three of the members representing the west, two the east and four the north ward. Taken as a whole the Board is one that has the cause of education at heart, but tho infusion of some new blood would not be unwelcome. Particularly, under the new scheme, the out-lying aud tho backblocks' schools haye tho opportunity, by combined action, of securing fuller representation, which, we hope, thoy will avail themselves of. Nomina'ions close on Monday next, the elections being fixed for Monday, 23rd July,
