DEATH OF OLD WEST COASTERS.

Hokitika, June 16,

James Davidson, aged 72, an old pioneer of the West Coast was found dead in bed at Stafford this morning. He had been ailing for some little time past.

An old man named Smith, who came out of the hospital yesterday, was seen sitting on the protection works to-day. Later his body was seen floating in the river, but before it could bo reached had disappeared and has not yet been recovered.
