STRATFORD NEWS.

Mr John Mackay (late of Midhirst). was on a visit to Stratford yesterday This is his first visit since he returned from the Old Country, and he was warmly welcomed by his old friends.
Mr A. Carncr sp, who was formerly reporter for the Stratford "Evening Post," was in Stratford to-day. Mr A. Kiild, M.H.R., passed through by the mail train this morning on his way to Wellington. Owing to numbers of farmers wishngtosee the Winter Show at Palinerston North next week, the Cardiff, Lowgarth and Ngairc dairy factories paid ont the milk cbcqii"> 10-day. A goodly number ot town and country people intend going to Wellington to attend tho late Premier's funeral,
The Mayor called a meeting to-day to arrange for a united memorial service on the <l,iy of the late Premier's 'uneral. The various churches were
■jpresented and it was decided to hold a service in the Town Hall, the details ..f which were left to ike ministers of religion present. An accident happened near Douglas j road last night. A man called McKenzie, working on the night shift on the Hailway works, was at work in a cutting, when a fall of earth almost buried him. He was extricated by his mates, and after Dr Menzies attended him and found McKenzie bad sustained a broken leg, he was brought into Stratford.
Mr Herbert Mercer has resigned From the manager of the D.S.C. boot itore and intends residing in Nelson.
The Eev. J. Miller Thomson leaves on a holiday trip to the South Island on Mondav.
