At last night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council, on the motion of Mr F. E. The Mayor of New Plymouth has been authorised to ask the Ministers Association to arrange a united public memorial service to bo held at the hour of tke funeral of the late Premier. A further suggestion is made that, on receipt of the news that the body of the deceased statesman has arrived |in the colony, the bell at St. Mary's Church should be tolled. The Garrison Band, which had intended playing a programme of music in tlie open air to-night, has decided to curtail the programme considerably. The band will now play a series of marches from the Melbourne House corner to the centre ot the town, where, at 8 o'clock, they will play " The Unknown Dead" funeral march in memory of the late Premier, and immediately dismiss.

To bring the travelling facilities within reach of all those desirous of being present in Wellington at the funeral of the late Mr Seddon, the Railway Department to-day and on Monday are issuing fares at excursion rates, from all stations, available for return until the end of the month.

At Whiteley Church to-morrow evening a memorial s'ervice for the late Premier will be conducted by the Rev. T. G. Brooke, and the subject of his address will be, "Mr Seddon as I Have Known Him." It is the preacher's intention to pay a personal tribute to the worth of the deceased statesman as he knew him on the West Coast many years ago, and, at tho same time, to relate some incidents that are both interesting and valuable, as showing the underlying religious instincts of the man.

At next meeting of the New Ply. mouth Borough Cjuncil, a motion will be considered from Councillor F. E. Wilson to have the prosent works subcommittee constituted a works committee. He proposes also that the council shall meet fortnightly. Cr Wilson considers that this will effectually dispose of the difference of opinion concerning tke advisability of admitting the Press to all meetings of the council. The lengthy sitting of the council on Friday night should assist the proposal to revert from the monthly to the former fortnightly meetings. Tho services at Whiteley Church on Sunday will be conducted by the Rev. T. G. Brooke. The morning subject will be, " Tho Lord's Remembrances," and in tho evening it will bo a memoriil service for the Kight Hon. R, J. Seddou.
