In speaking of the milking competitions recently inaugurated by fin Taranaki Agricultural Society, Mr W. Ainbury stated at the Tnglewood farmers' meeting on Wednesday night that these had cerfninly done some good, but il would be impossible to obtain any reliable comparison of the various breeds of milch cows until the society had permanent grounds of ils own, where the competing cattle could be kept for ten days or more, and all fed and treated alike in a normal fashion. Tt had been ascertained that in the last competition the cows had been fed in a style that would ruin any farmer if put into general practice. It is as well to explain that the most pampered cow, who had brewer's grains, her own milk, and all sorts of things to eat in order that her milk production might be increased, died, her calf following suit.
