TARANAKI SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Taranaki Board of School Commissioners was held on Friday. Present-. Messrs J. Wade (Chairman), Simpson, Jennings, and Faull. Tho Boarl's solicitor reported on the sale of leises, when IS lots out of 68 offered, were leaded,—The remain ■ ing leaseholds will bo offered to the public by application it the office. Messrs Dockrill (Mayor) and Browne (B.irougli Council of New Plymouth), waited on tho Bji 1, and inked the Board's assistance ia preparing a Bill to present to Parliament, with the object of effecting the proposed exchange of sections between tho Borough Council and the Commissioners for the extension of Western Park.
The Board's solicit r, Mr Samuel, said he had no intention of drafting the Bill, but would peruse it on behalf of the Commissioners.
The Board decided that the solicitor should perme the Bill when drafted, and report to tin 1 Chairman, who was authorised to take such steps as may be necessary to curry out the arrangements made.
Mrs Fraser having given notice that she did not intend for the present to proceed with the conversion of her lease, the special resolution dealing with her lease of bee. 1643, and part Sec. 1G44, New Plymouth, was not confirmed.
The renewal loase to T. L, Joll, of Sub 2 of Sec 22, Block XV., Kaupokonui, will be completod. A perpetual lease will be granted to Airs Jane Dew, of Sub 1 of Section 16, Block 11., Waimate S.D., for 21 years from date of expiration of present
lease, at the yearly rental of £37 7s, with rights of renewal in accordance with the form recently adopted by the Board, the value of substantial improvements of a permanent nature being ascertained as £2OO. Tho Wanganui Education Board wrote urging tho Commissioners to decide upon tho application (or an addition of 12 acres to the school sito at Ellham. During tho discussion on this [matter, letters were read from several Education Boards giving details of areas of sites of town and country schools within their respective districts, and it was pointed out that the
present area of the Eltkam site is 2 acres 3 rools 23 perches. It was d>ioiiled, on the motion of Messrs Simpson aud Jennings, " That tho Commissioners having communicated with the Boards in other districts, find
that no schools similar to that at I Eltliam have more land available than is available at Eltham. Seeing the small fu nils hold by the Commissioners, for procuring sites for schools in localities in which no sufficient facilities now exist and whoro without such facilities children arc being in some cases deprived of tho opportunity of being educated, the Board regrets that it cannot see its way to accede to the request o£ tho Wanganui Education Board." The matter of acquiring an acre of land as an addition to the Upper Kent road school sito was referred to the solicitor to advise, and the chairman was empowered to take action if he considered it advisable. Tho treasurer reported a credit balance of £Bl5 13s 3d, and ho was authorised to pay £7OO for primary education.
Subject to papers being in order, and conditions complied with, Thomas Crear was granted leave to transfer to K. A. Morton his lease of Section 125, Huia and Waiwakaiho districts. Mr A. Marcliant was appointed the Board's arbitrator in connection with E. J. Baker's application for a renewal of his lease of Section 4, Block VIII., Waitara S.D. A ronewal leaso of Section 20, Block 3, Waimate, will be granted to the personal representative of the lato tenant, Rhody Slattory, deceased. Accounts amounting to £67 18s 7d, and all unpaid advertising accounts, were passed for payment
