ARMY MEAT CONTRACTS.
NEW ZEALAND'S OPPOB- ■ TUNITY. Heceived 8,1.27 a.m. Mbiboubhb, June 7. With reference to the War Office decision regarding Colonial tinned meat, Mr Seddon says there ought now to be an opportunity for New Zealand to bring under the noticp of the British Government and British consumers the advantages of having Colonial meat, frozen, chilled, or tinned. Mr Seddon has communicated with the British Government through the Governor, and with the High Commissioner, on the matter. He states there is no place in the world where the same rigid inspection of slaughtering obtains as in New Zealand. Every abattoir is under Government inspection. If there is the slightest sign of taint or disease, the meat is condemned. Inspection and grading costs New Zealand twenty thousand per year. The same care is exercised with regard to tinned meats. Not only that, but the best meats only »»e sent Home. One of the complaints is that New Zealand is overweight meat, and that poor meat is not allowed to be exported.
