NEWTON MUG'S WEEKLY AUCTION 11EP0KT. At the Haymarket on Saturday, there was a fair entry of pigs. Weaners made 'ls to 7s, small stores 12s fid to 18s. The special sale of timber was well attended, and nearly every lot was disposed of, although prices were in favor of purchasers. At the mart a large number of fowls came forward. Bidding was spirited, and all sold at good prices. Pullets made Is Id to 4s 3d, hens Is to 2s <ld, cockerels Is 4d to 4s, ducks Is 7d to 3s 6d, A large quantity of furniture and sundries found buyers at ordinary prices.
Fruit: At sales during the week, oranges made 3s to 6s 6d, bananas 2s to 9s, apples Is to 2s fld box, 3s to 6s 6d per case, lemons 3s to ss. Cattle •. At Stratford on Tuesday I had a big yarding of mostly grown r "l<\ and far in excess of advertised numbers. A tine lot of steers and big bullocks (the latter including a good line of five.year-olds) came forivard. There was a verv large attendance, with a good many southern buyers, and the demand was more active than for some time past. With the exception of one line, all steers and bullocks changed hands. Very few young cattle came forward, and I was unable to fill all buyers' requirements. Store cows and heifer classes showed liltle alteration on late rates. Once more I would impress upon vendors the importance of entering their cattle. It c /.its them nothing for advertising, and buyers will not come from a distance for a small entry. I quote : Calves 4s 6d to 13s 6d, yearlings 19s, 18 months steers 25s to 395, 2 to 2i year do. £2 7s Cd to £3 2s, .Si year forward bullocks £3 l is, 5-year do. £5 las, store cows 15s to 3ls fid.
