INEFFECTUAL RUSES. Received 31, 10.39 p.m. FIETBBMABITZBBBO, May 91. Colonel Vanderplank, with the Zulu, lend mounted rifles and some of Natal barbarians and levies under Lieuten. ants London and Shepstone, carried out successful operations in the Mpatu district. The rebels -made a determined Btand, charging twice, but the levies stabbed and shot thirty.five in tbe bush.
The troops at Dundee have began a general forward movement. Details of the Bunkenyoni fight show that the camp was situated on a hill. The whites formed two sidos of a square, and Sibindi's men the othsr two sides.
A succession of rushing daring, attacks and ruses were- carried on from all sides by the rebels.
A herd of cattle was moved against one tace of the square, as a screen and to break the formation. The point was, however, held by the Mounteds and a volley checked the onrush. The whole British position was soon surrounded, and Col. Lenohars planted riflemen in the midst of Bibindi's forces. The enemy's rifle lire was good, but the casualties lerc insignificant, the Britishers lying down and firing from behind their saddles.

The Opposition cheered Winston Churchill for deolining to listen to Byless Seely's suggestion and bring pressure to bear on Natal to terminate martial law. Mr Churchill remarked that the continuance thereof must necessarily be governed by the continuance of the state of serious insurrection and military operations.
