» PBB MESS ASSOCIATION, Dosedin, May 28. | Matthow Eirkwood was killed on the 1 railway line near Balclutha on Saturday night. • It is supposed he was lying asleep on the line, and that a slow train ran over him.
Auckland, May 28. A child under two years of age, the daughter of Mrs Harding, residing in Brunswick street, Ponsonby, was drowned ttrough falling into a bath' The mother found the child kneeling alongside the bath, her clothes saturated with water,:'and on picking her up found she was dead Napieb, May 28. A carter named William Maxey was found unconscious in the stables of his employers, Messrs J. and W. Prebbles, and his skull badly fractured. Ho died yesterday. It is believed deceased had gone to the stable to feed the hwses and was kicked by a horse against a post or other hard substanoe.
Wbilinoton, May 28. Inquests were held to-day concerning the deaths of Frederick Perara, who was killed on the steamer Aparima on Saturday, and Daniel Duggan, tho victim of the train accident on Saturday night. In each instance a verdict of accidental death was returned. In Euggan's case a rider was added urging added precautions in respect to allowing passengers to open the gates of cars, etc, Timabp, May 28. At the inquest on a young man named Gellatry, alias Knox, who was found dead in bed at the Crown hotel, the medical evidence showed death was due to an overdose of morphia, (injected by a syringe), acting on weak lungs. A verdict was returned accordingly.
