The Chairman of the Gcraldine l(o;id Board was the convener, and the Mayor of Timaru and the Chairman of the Levels County Council were the chief speakers in favour of a reduced levy, Mayor Craigio suggesting' that the funds in hand would onable the U ,ard to dis. pense with a levy altogether this year, Mr J. Fraser, chairman of ihe Harbour Board ex,,lamed that the reserves had been accumulated chiefly for the renewal of the maiu wharf, which would be necessary Soo n, and such provision was as legal as it was necessary. A recommendation was declared carried, though only two voted for it, reeommending the Board to reduce the levy from a farthing to tliree-sixteentlis of a penny.
