TO THE EDITOR. Sib, The following appears in your columns of Thursday morning's issue: "In announcing the assessors' decision, Mr Hutchison said they wished to P'ace on record that, notwithstanding all the agitation that had beon raised about tho valuations, only one freehold objector had appeared, and his valuation was sustained, etc." This, I think, is scarcely a fair way to put it, and somewhat misleading, as actual facts will show. At the first meeting of objectors it was showa that there were cases in which the valuations were assessed at too high a figure, and those who wore of that opinion fully intended, to mako objections, when the time should come, at the Assessment Court-, In the meantime, and as publicity had been given to the grievances through the daily papers, the Hon. Mr Mills, who was passing through New Ply. mouth, took the opportunity of meeting tho objectors, and to hear for himself what they had to say, The next thing to happen was a notice through tho papers that the valuer would meet tho objectors at a certain time and place. I was one of those objectors who took tho opportunity of talking matters over with him, and arriving at a satisfactory arrangement as to my reductions, had no further cause for complaint. This 1 tako to be the case with the majority of tho objectors, hence their non-appearance at Court.— I am, oto„
