MATHEW FOWLDS OF KILMARNOCK. Received 24. 10.53 p.m. London, Ma) 21. His family banquetled Mathew Fowlds (father of Mr G. Fowlds M.H.R. for Grey Lynn), at Kilmarnock in cebration of his centenary. There were four hundred guest, irclud ing Sir Joseph Ward and Messrs Eobert MoNab, Aitken and George Fowlds, New Zealand Commoners. The King and Mr Seddon, Auckland aid Eden funds, and Auckland single taxers telegraphed congratulations. Sir H, Campbell-Bannerman, Lord Onslow and the Hon. W. P. Reeves sent apologies for not being present The centenary in a vigorous speech a-'knowledgcd a presentation of an oil painting of himself working at a weaver's loom. All the Commoners present spoke. Sir Joseph Ward was given a great reception on replying to the toast " Britons across the seas."
