* DEBATE IN THE COMMONS. . Received 24,11.24 a.m. Lou doh, May 24. The Nonconformists are thunderstruck at Mr T. Lough's fauc pas., They declare his belitleing of Bible teaching has given away the case for tiie Bill in the Commons. Ml Bunciman was put' up to rewsure Nonconformists, by eulogising 4ae efficiency of the Cowpcr Temple system.
Mr Bamsay Mac Donald objected to simple Bible teaching in schools, because it was inadequate to secure ganuine religious instruction. Mr Balfour considered Mr Maddison's amendment cut the schools adrift from religion. Ho supported Mr Chamberlain. The debate was adiourned.
