CRIMINAL APPEAL BILL.
A MODIFIED PROPOSAL. Received 24,1.5 a.m. London', May 23. In the House of Lords during the liscussion on the Criminal Appeal Bill, Lords ITlverstone, Ashbourn. Ualesbury and James of Hereford argued that the Bill was calculated to undermine the responsibilities of juries. Lord Loreburn agreed to accept a cross-amendment to the effect that an appeal be allowed only when a judge at the trial, or the Court of Criminal Appeal thought there ought to be an appeal.
