PUB PBBBB ASSOCIATION. Wellington, May 23. At the Friendly Societies' Conference " on the motion of Bro. Lariuch (Otago Council), seconded by Bro. W. G-ibb (U.A.O.D, All Nations), it wa» re* solved that the information required by the Registrar from secretaries should be more clearly defined in the Act. Two remits in the direction o! oompjlling auditing of secretaries' boolu by a public auditor or by a Government Auditor were withdrawn.
Bro, 8. J. Wation (Palmenton -Vorth Council) moved that it U de< lirable that all Friendly Societies in - Xew Zealand should adopt a uniform system of bookkeeping, and that all bodges should hare the same, lor a balance-sheet. The mover hoped that | uniformity of bilance-sheets would bo tarried if not uniformity of bookkeepin U- , Bro.H. Everett (1.0.0. F., M.U. Vlotueka) moved as an amendment, the addition of the words "Suoh uniform system and form to be established by ihe Government Audit Department." Bro. Everett declared that most of the defalcations that happened occurred beoause the society auditors did not * know their work. The amendment was negatived and the motion carried. Bro. Lalnach (Otajo Council) moved that the Begistrar be restrained from interfering with the expenditure of the management funds of lodges, Che mover said lodges should be per. mitted to spend out of this fund as they thought proper, so long as they did not trench upon sick and funeral
fund*. .The motion iru rejected. Bro. Larnaoh moved, on beludf of the Otago Council, that secretarial be allowed discretion to recede contri-
butions outside lodge rooma, and on other than on lodge nights. The motion was oarried.
Bro. R. J. Simpson (U.A.O.D, Canterbury Grand Lodge) moved to the effect that the Act be attended «o that the annual returns mtde by lodges—to the Registrar be accepted as made up for the financial (as well aa the calendar) year. This was lost on the voioes. A motion was also earned urging t'lat members of friendly sooietiea should not be penalised under the Old Age Pensions Act, by virture of draw, ing sick or other pay from their society. A motion urging that the moneys of sick and funeral funds invested in property be exempt from municipal taxes, was negatived. Later. Tho Friendly Societies' Conference to-night appointed a committee of five to report on the position that hai arisen at Motueka between the doctors of the societies. It had been intended to interview the Medical Association but it appears that th:> matter had boen referred to the Nel'on section of tho Associatisn. Propisals for a Federal Arfboiatioh,. to arrange for registration of the Provincial Council, and for the establishment of a Colonial ECxecutive were negatived.
