EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board resumed its sitting on Wednesday morning. _ It was decided to adhere to the previous resolution in reference to nonpayment of Mr Grant for addition to the teacher's residence at Inglewood. The architect will be instructed to supply and have fixed four dozen hat pegs in the Stratford school.
The Stratford committee mentioned the caie of George Arthur Hudson' who wn? unable to take up his National scholarship, owing to his father's income being beyond the prescribed limit, Mr Hudson would like some notification from the Board as evidence that he gained the plaoe, as it might be of use to him in the future. It was decided that scholars of Taranaki schools who qualify for scholarships are to receive a certificate of the same and that Mr Hudson will be informed of this decision. The Waitara school committee was granted a £ for £ subsidy, the Board's share not to exceed £2O, for a shelter shed, and will the architc it be in. structed to forward a plan as asked by tho committeo.
Permission was given to open tho Waitara school at 9 a.m. instead of 9.30 in order to suit children who arrive by train.
The special committeo' set up to consider the question of tho New Plymouth Technical school tenders w is granted another month in which to rcpirt, and a resolution was carried that a portico, and not a tower, bo free to 1 over the doorway. • The New Plymouth (Central) school committee asked the Board to consider the question of increasing the capitalion for the quarter ended Docember, 1905. The Board had, in June and Septembor quarters, supplemented the grants, and as the committee was unable to meet its liability of £7 10s, due lo the niglitsoil contractors, the Board's assistance was again invoked. The Board decided to adhere to the 1901 scalo up to 31st December, 1905.
The committees woro granted permission to roduce tho mid-day recess by half an-hour at the Kent road and lOgmont Villago schools, and to close at 3 p.m. during tho winter months. An application will be made to tho School Commissioners to favourably consider the request of tho Upper h-ent itoad Committee for an enlargement of tho schoolground. Messrs Govett and Quilliam, tho Board s solicitors, gayo thoir opinion that in order to elect tho new Board on tho ward system, all the present members of the Board should rctiro. The Durham road and Dudloy road road committees will bo informed that the Board cannot allow any change in the dates of the midwinter hqlidays. Messrs Jamison and Laurence pres n'cd a petition asking the Board to enlarge the schoolground by acquiring I part of the adjoining education reserve [in order to provide a sight for a residence and to make a suitable playground. Accounts amounting to .EI7L2 3s 9d were passed for payment and the Baard rose.
