Wellington, May 22 The Friendly Societies Conference spent considerable tilde on the discos. sion of Mr Loasby's motion, providing that the Acts should' be-'wnended so that no Bociety oould befcregistereA unless certified that the table of contributions provided is adequate for th» benefits offered. During the debate. & delegate said that in one distriot.'out of sovon lodges, four were unfinanciaL In another soven out of ten were unfinancial. Iu another there were throe lodges all unfinancial, whilo in another sevonteen out of twenty-one wore unfinancial. The motion was carried by 31 votes to 13. The Oddfellows of Manchester Unity, American Constitution and British United gave the motion a block vote, and the National Order of Oddfellows voted " nay." It was resolved that no society bo allowed to carry on business without saving an adequate scale of oontrN buttons commensurato with the benefit! proposed, and approved by a competent actuary, which scale of contribution* shall not disturb the contributions of existing members, but shall be brought into existence on a later dato, and shall apply to all thoso joining after that date. It was decided that the Act be amended by extending the power of nomination to sums of not more than £IOO, instead of not more' than £SO, and by adding friendly societies dispensaries to the provident institution* to which the societies may sitbicribo> under sub-soction 12 of section 13. A motion waa oarried giving small lodges power to send balanoes to their district authorities in order to got the advantage of joint investment. The conference rosolved that on the dissolution of a branch of a registered friendly society, all moneys and propertiM shall he handed over to the oentral body, after claims and debts have beta, pvdt
