GYMNASIUM CLUB.

The members of the Gymnasium Club held their oponing social in the Whiteley Hall on Thursday night. There was a good attendaneo. The President, Mr W. Ambury, addressed some remarks to tho members, and mentioned some of the advantages of regular gymuastic exorcises and physical development, making a healthy body to accommodate the healthy mind. The Mayor, Mr E. Doekrill, congratulated the oflieials on tho excellent results obtained, and on the membership—4o in the ladies' and 31 in the men's classos. Mr MacDiarmid, one of the vice-presidents, spoke in a similar strain. The evening was principally taken up with games and i competitions. Tlie flower guessing competitions were won by Misses Heldt and Waugh in the ladies section, and Messrs S. Griffiths and J. Whitcombe were the winners amongst the male members. Mrs Ambury and Miss Waugh contributed pianoforte solas, and Messrs Cooper and J. Ambury vocal items. An energetic ladies' committee had charge of the supper arrangements, which left nothing to be desired,
