HIDE MARKET Meuioukxe, May 17. The hides market is firm; values improved by an eighth of a penny. Good enquiries for New Zealand.
BITKNSIDE MARKET REPORT.
PEB I'IiESS ASSOCIATION, Duxedix, May Hi. Pat cattle.—ls-1, yarded, the. majority being only medium quality. The demand was good, especially for wellfinished sorts. Best bullocks L 9 10s to £lO 10s, medium L 7 to L 8 ss, inferior LI 10s to L 5 lUs, best eows and heifers L'i to L(i 15s, medium L 4 10s to L 5 15s, inferior L 3 10s to 14. Fat sheep. -1373 yarded, principally unfinished wethers aud ewes. Prices showed a sharp rise, due, no doubt, lo the small yarding. Best wethers 20s to 23s 9d, extra up to 26s 9d, good wethers 16s to 18s 6d, best ewes 17s 6d to 20s. An extra pen sold at 225, 235, and as high as 27s 3d. Fat lambs.—s2l penned. The market was perhaps a trifle easier. One pen of extra prime quality brought 22s 6d, best lambs 14s to 17s, good lambs 10s to 13s.
Pigi.—2s3 yarded. Porkers and baconers werp slightly cosier, though they met with a good sale,'and small sorts soli also at reduced rates. Suckers 4s to 7s, slips 9s to 14s, stores 17s to 235, porkers 32s to 395, light baconers 43s to 48s, heavy 50s to 60s, choppers up to 735.
DUNEDIN GRAIN REPORT.
TEE TRESS ASSOCIATION. Dukedin, May 16. Wheat.—Millers are now prepared to advance on late quotations, and all prime samples are saleable at an increase on last week's rates. Tuscan is scarce, and in the most demand, (iood fowl wheat is also dearer, and readily placed at quotations. Prime milling 3s 4d to 3s od per bushel, medium to good milling 3s Oid to 3s 3d, best whole fowl wheat 3s to 3s Id, inferior and broken 2s !).l to 2s lid.
Oats.—There lms been a sharp rise since last report, and the market is at present excited. More samples have lately come to hand, and shippers are inclined to try to reduce prices, but farmers are not inclined to sell except at extreme rates.
