CONTROL OF CHINA'S CUSTOMS.
EFFECT OF RECENT APPOINTMENTS. London, May 12. Britain, in a Note to China, demands a satisfactory assurance that the recent appointments will not affect the administration of the Customs, wherein 1500 Europeans under Sir Robert Hart, Inspector-Gewal, are engaged. Nsw Yobk, May 8. In reply to the Hon. Elihu Boot, U.S. Secretary of State, Mr Rockhill, American Minister, reports that the opinion of diplomatists is that China's action will mean a complete reversal of the Chinese fiscal policy
