THE FORMOSAN EARTHQUAKE.
A FEARFUL VISITATION. Received 14,11.5 p.m. Sydney, May 14. Details of the Formosan earthquake show that eleven hundred and six were lulled, and eighteen hundred and sixtytwo wounded. Three thousand eight hundred and thirty-two houses were destroyed and two thousaud one hundred and twenty-one partially destroyed.
FURTHER DETAILS. Received 14,11.30 p.m. Sydney, May 14. Early on the morning of March 17th the inhabitants near Kagi were startled by several slight shocks, followed by a Boverd one accompanied by subterranean explosions. The shock continued at intervals of five to ten minutes all day. Thsy continued through the day following and abated on the ninteenth. The devastated area is about thirty square mites in extent. The surface was much cracked in all directions and water spurted up several feet. In some parts the land subsided and lakes formed. In other pkces the exuding mud formed hillocks.
