THE WESTERN PARK.

FINANCIAL AID FROM THE BOROUGH COUNCIL.. At Monday's night's meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council, a letter was read from the Western Park Committee, ashing the Council to facilitate the exchange of sections with the School Commissioners for park purposes. Tlie committee undertook to contribute £45, and to bear the cost of obtaining a private Act to carry out the exchange.

Subsequently the following recommendation ef the Estimates Committee was unanimously adopted" That his Worship the Mayor be autkorised to arrange with the Taranaki School Commissioners for the exchange of six sections owned by the Council (332334, 358-3(iO), for eight sections owned by the Commissioners (488-4U5), the Council paying the sum of £320 by way of equality, in accordance with the terms of the letter of the Commissioners of the 9th February, l!)0li. Curious as to the manner of raising the necessary funds, in view of tlie necessity for recent retrenchment, a News representative was informed that Ibe Council had £2OO to invest in | the property. This money iyas in the form of debentures received in com-1 pensation for a portion of the Council's Ngaire reserve taken for the Toko I branch railway, and to be properly invested, must be invested in property This, with the amouut guaranteed by the Board, made £215, leaving £75 to be accounted for, and this amount l)a s been made up of £<>s paid by Mr Kyugdon |for a portien of Fulford Street, and £lO rental from re. erve T, the Tukapa football grouad. Thus, the Western Park Boarl is ana'iled to complete the sports ground as they desire, and the public will, in future years, have no fault to find with the Council which, by this timely action, prevented tlie Board from " spoiling the ship for a ha'p'orth o' tar."
