AMUSEMENTS.

MR J. C. WILLIAMSON'S COMIC OPERA COMPANY. Mr J. C. Williamson's Comic Opera Company will appear here to-night and to-morrow (Saturday) night, producing i 0 -Jlr mos ' P°P u l<ir and successful of Messrs Gilbert and Sullivan's JS* 8 - To-night "Utopia, Ltd," or! Ihe Flowers of Progress," will be staged. It is the last, and probably one of the finest works of tlie joint authors. Itteems with brilliant satire ana its dialogue contains more spontaneous fun than any other of the famous series. The music is of the usual Sullivan standard, catchy, and its airs are sure to be hummed or played just as the airs of Gilbert and Sullivan's other " Utopia Ltd.," recently staged in Wellington, was an instantaneous success From rise to fall of thocurtain a more enthusiastic audience has seldom witnessed any production. The Australian press are most liberal in their appreciation of this great work. Tho farewell production will be that charming comic opera romance, " The Gondoliers," well known to all lovers of this class of work, « The Gondoliors" has stood the test of time, and has been produced in all the main thoroughfares of the world. The management promise that the Operas will bo precisely as they were in Wellington, omitting nothing in the chorus and instrumental accompaniment necessary for absolutely perfect performances, and, indeed, past experieucc of Mr Williamson's operations in the town almost render his assurance unnecessary. The Opera Company is one of the most elaborate and important that has yet toured New Zealand under Mr Williamson's management. The combination is under tho charge of Mr Henry Bracy, whilst Mr Goo. Hall will direot the Grand Opera Chorus and Orchestra.
