A MAORI PROPHET.
"BROTHER OF JESUS CHRIST." NATIVES VERy EXCITED. TROUBLE FEARED. PES PKESB ASSOCIATION. Koituoa, May 9. A maori named Run, styling himself a prophet, aud a brother of .Tesus Christ, is causing considerable unrest among the natives in the Whakatane district. Lirgo numbers of natives follow him from place to place. He claims he crni heal the Rick, restore sight, rtisc the dead (if not dead more than two hours), and tells the natives that King Edward VII. will be in Gisborne on 25th June.
The natives arc very excited, and say that the patella will be driven off the land when the King arrives. A large house is to be built at Gisborne for the new Messiah and the King at a cost of three millions. Numbers of natives are selling horses, cattle, and crops to follow the " prophet." It is reported that fire hundred are following him now. Many of them volunteered to arm themsolves with modern firearms. It is feared the result will be a breach of the peace. Rua is a son of Te Kooti, the noted chief.
