At the meeting of the Council of the Chamber of Commerce at New Plymouth, ou MoudaJ evening, after Mr Eraser'.- ""- vulion against the imposition of duty on packet teahadheen put. and carried, it was also resolved, "That this chamber cordially supports the Auckland IChamber's suggestion that an independent Board with practical experts should be set up to adjust, and if necessary to correct, the many anomalies in the tariff; and further 'litat this Chamber endorse the action io£i4i/-' Auckland Chamber in the reCl *iinni£B4#tion to remove the duty on potatoes, or reduce it to 10 per cent" After ® lengthy consideration of the proposed W duty promised by the Premier 1 , it was toady resolved, " That this Chamber would urge the Government to remove tfce whole duty on sugar, and & proportion off other necessaries of life affecting the whole community, in lieu of reduoing the duty on tobacco, which is a luxury enjoyed by only a portion of the people."
