In the Supreme Court William George Smith pleaded guilty to five charges of thoft from his employers, covering a long poriod, and involving something like LoOO. He was sentenced to ten months' imprisonment, having been nine weeks in gaol. Georgo Lee, sixty-eight years, was sentenocd to seven years for burglary. Accused had spent 40 years in gaol for various offences.
G. Robertson, theft, was sentenced to two years.
John Boss pleaded not guilty to a charge of having, on December 26th, kept and used a room m Colombostreet for the purpose of hotting with persons resorting thoroto. The case •had been heard at the previous sittings, when the jury disagreed. This time also the jury disagreed, and the Crown Prosecutor statod that he would consider what steps ho should take. David Elliot was acquitted on a charge of stealing 16 cases of fruit. Francis Wuddell was found guilty of having assaulted Samuel Gilmer, so as to causo him actually b uly harm. He nas r 'Uianiled for senteuco. Gisi:o.ink, May S. John Smith and John Soott were found guilty of a breach of the Bankruptcy Act in failing to keep proper book?. The jury recomm ;nded leniency towards Smith, on tho ground thaifiiia partner (Scott) had had the businoss management. Sentence was deferred.
